How to connect to one icq account from multiple computers at same time
I am not for using multiple (two or more) computers. I love remote desktop connection (rdp), vnc, ssh and other services which allow you to control your computer over half world. It is better to have editor, work documents, passwords, files, music collection on one computer and connect to it - no duplicates, everythings up to date ( yeah do backups ffs ). But there is one thing which is better to have on every computer - IM clients.
But there comes a trouble with IM’s. I have multiple IM’s and multiple computers and i dont want to logout when switching from one to another and i want to have my logs up to date on all the computers. Some IM’s ( eg skype ) have nice feature ( read BUG ) which allow you to connect from multiple computers and all the messages are mirroring. I mean, nice feature, but what about security ? Someone else guess your password and he can read all your conversations for years without you even noticing it.
On most IM’s you can use shell to have them on it. But, shell cuts the graphic interface and also there is no notyfing. And trust me, it is pretty stupid to have icq without notify because then you have to look at that ssh window every 30 seconds to check if somebody didnt write query you.
I think i have solution for this problem. I have been using Trillian for years and one time my friend shown me awesome plugin. Its called IM Everywhere.
You just install it to your trillian, activate in preferences > plugins, set the login/password and port. Then you restart your trillian, type your ip and choosen port to your favorite browser ( read firefox ) and there you go. First it asks for login, once you are logged in, you see your contact list. When someone write to you, you can see it, you can chat and as a bonus, all the activity is stored on your main computer! So you have all your logs complete.
Looks pretty similar to skype feature, but there is one great difference. In skype - skype is boss, here, you are the boss - you can choose whatever to allow login or not - simply - SET UP YOUR FIREWALL!, or use some vpn ( eg hamachi ). So you have encrypted chatting from multiple locations with complete controll of access. What more could you possibly want ? yeah .. one french maid
